Picture a Zombiemat, along with Brian Grell running around looking for the owner to tell him/her why they need to retool. 🤣 You're probably envisioning a grimy place with machines that cough up more dust and dirt than a vacuum bag, right?

But what if I said that the Zombiemats of tomorrow aren't lurking in the shadows?

They're hiding in plain sight, masquerading as the clean, bright, and safe laundromats of today.

The basic concept of a laundromat hasn't changed much outside of advancements in machine technology. But as more laundromats get a facelift, the standard is shifting. The clean, bright, and safe laundromat is becoming the new basic. If your laundromat only meets these basic expectations, it's on a one-way trip to Zombiematville.

When every laundromat is as clean as a whistle and as safe as a bank vault, how do you rise above the rest? How do you make your laundromat the only choice for clients? The answer is as simple as it is challenging: Evolve relentlessly and find new ways to blow client expectations out of the water.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Leverage Technology: Think mobile payments, real-time machine availability updates, and other technology that enhances the client experience.
  • Provide Exceptional Client Service: Train your team to not just serve, but to delight. A friendly, helpful attendant can turn a chore into a joy.
  • Engage the Community: Make your laundromat a hub of the community. Host events, support local causes, and create a sense of belonging.
  • Adopt Eco-Friendly Practices: Go green with energy efficient machines, eco-friendly detergents, reusable bags and other sustainable practices.
  • Add Additional Services: Offer services like wash and fold or dry cleaning. Cater to every need, and they'll have no reason to go elsewhere.
  • Create a Unique Atmosphere: Create an atmosphere that's more than just clean, bright, and safe. Think comfortable seating and good music.

The future of laundromats isn't set in stone. It's up to us, the owners and operators, to shape that future. By constantly evolving and finding new ways to exceed client expectations, we can ensure our laundromats remain successful businesses and not future Zombiemats.

That's all I got for today.
